Description:
Windblown continues to set the standard for superior cross country skiing opportunities both in New Hampshire and throughout New England. Located near the Monadnock mountain range, Windblown features an impressive and expansive 25 miles of neatly groomed and tracked Nordic skiing trails. This center is especially known for its eight kilometers of advanced trails which, spanning along Barrett Mountain, are some of the steepest you will find in a formal cross country ski area. Even the intermediate trails offer a nice combination of interesting dips and turns. One drawback, however, are the easy trails which tend to be located within fairly tedious flat terrain. Windblown does a nice job of accommodating snow shoe enthusiasts with interesting trails that criss cross it's property. Nevertheless, the sheer variety of the trails is a definite highlight of Windblown. Skiers can course through pastoral fields and meadows, valleys, along ponds, and even a hilltop with a commanding view of nearby Mt. Monadnock itself. The center has some touches that include a warming hut and a mountain top shelter. The hut can even be rented in advance for overnight stays. At the end of a long day of exemplary Nordic skiing, be sure to take a moment to enjoy the Ski Shop's upstairs snack bar featuring such treats as hot chocolate and tasty sandwiches. For fans of cross country skiing, Windblown is a destination not to be missed.
