The primarily residential Moncloa and Arguelles area is livened up by the students who attend the universities in nearby University City (Ciudad Universitaria) and enriched by the cultural attractions found along the neighborhood's western and northern edges. To show you what we mean, we've put together a list of the top 10 things to do in Moncloa and Arguelles. Our top pick is Madrid's Costume Museum (Museo del Traje), a hidden gem located in University City. There you can see cool clothes from throughout the ages as well as Spanish regional costumes and haute couture items. Nestled in a quiet riverside area, the Ermita San Antonio de la Florida is a pretty little chapel filled with frescoes by famed Spanish painter Francisco Goya. The artist's tomb is there, too. Located next to a gorgeous walled rose garden (if you can't find it, ask someone to point you to Rosaleda Ramón Ortiz), the Teleférico gondola/cable car whisks you above the treetops for a view of Madrid's green western edge. The Teleférico then deposits you on top of a hill in the Casa de Campo parkland where you can enjoy the views and a picnic, or simply catch a return trip to the city. The Templo de Debod is an ancient Egyptian temple that was transplanted to Madrid and turned into a small museum. The temple's interior is a fascinating space containing artifacts while the temple outside is set against a view of the valley below.
