Description:
The Forecastle Festival was first held in 2002 in Louisville's Tyler Park as a free summer music fest, with a few hundred people in attendance. Since then, it has grown steadily larger, incorporating art and activism by inviting artists and non-profit groups to participate in the weekend-long event. The festival moved around the city, from Tyler Park to Cherokee Park, most recently landing by the river at Waterfront Park, where in 2010, more than 30,000 people came to see bands like Spoon, She and Him, DEVO, the Smashing Pumpkins, and the Flaming Lips. Forecastle usually takes place in July. This year, founder JK McKnight joined with AC Entertainment (responsible for Bonaroo) to plan for the Forecastle's 10th anniversary in 2012. The
Halfway to Forecastle will take place in July instead.
