NileGuide Expert tip:
If time is an issue, go very early – there seems to be only one waitress at La Bodega, and while she's attentive, it's challenging to tend to a busy restaurant alone.
Description:
Located on Bardstown Road in the Highlands, La Bodega Tapas Bar shares its kitchen and owners with De la Torre's Spanish restaurant. The tapas are all between $3-15, and cocktails run about $7-10. We haven't tried a thing we didn't like at La Bodega – artisan cheeses, shrimp in olive oil and garlic, the avocado and fried green pepper montadito (the menu describes these as "small bites served on a slice of crusty baguette," and they are just about a bite, so get two if you don't think you'll want to share), the chocolate mousse dessert (with a caramel sauce) – all were wonderful. If only there was more bread in the bread basket to finish off the olive oil.
Don't miss the cocktails – La Bodega makes its caiparinha with rum instead of cachaca (although cachaca is also available), and the French 75 offers an alternative to the standard, overly-sweet citrus drink.
