Located in a barn-like building in St. Matthews, Village 8 Theaters lacks the flashy decor of newer, megaplex cinemas. But when tickets are $3 for movies before 6 and $4 after (for adults), who cares about interior design? Like Baxter Avenue Theater, Village 8 is owned and operated by Apex Entertainment and is the focus of the company's "Louisville Exclusive Films" project, which aims to bring the city art, foreign, and independent films (as well as some mainstream selections). A new movie opens each Friday at this discount theater, which has hosted special events like the Jewish Film Festival and the International 48 Hour Film Festival. For all-day specials, visit Village 8 on a Tuesday ($2 movies all day) or Thursday ($3 all day). The day's first showing of films start around 1 p.m. and the last shows are around 10.
