Liberty is famous for its iconic Paisley teardrop-patterned prints and fabrics. But even if you hate shopping, still come here to enjoy the most beautiful store interior in London. The magnificent black-and-white half-timbered Marlborough Street frontage is convincingly Tudor, though it was actually built in 1924. The interior comprises a series of galleries, four storeys high, grouped around a central well, using timbers from two of the Royal Navy's last wooden sailing ships; the craftsmanship throughout is outstanding. Don't miss the sumptuous Oriental department and its wonderful fabrics and carpets.
