Soho & Chinatown
Soho still has sex appeal with its various sex shops, bookstores, and clubs offering up paraphernalia, costumes, and toys for whatever you fancy. Old Compton Street, the focus of Soho's thriving gay and lesbian community, continues to draw in Londoners, though Vauxhall, just south of the river, has in recent years become the site of several gay nightclubs and bars.
Scattered throughout Soho are several up and coming, uber cool restaurants, most defined by their highly-irritating (in this writer's opinion) no-reservation policies. Cross over Shaftesbury Avenue into Chinatown if it is Chinese or Asian food you are looking for and, if you're lucky enough and can find the right black door, knock on the entrance to the Experimental Cocktail Club and walk upstairs to experience an over-priced, but deliciously divine, house cocktail.
Carnaby Street on the east edge of Soho and of Swinging Sixties London fame provides a pedestrianized shopping experience away from the high-street fashion shops of Oxford Street.
