Description:
This late 18th-century restaurant is Lisbon's oldest, and one of the most esteemed in Portugal. The highly regarded French chef Aimé Barroyer directs the kitchen and his passion and skill in creating contemporary Portuguese gastronomy has helped maintain the restaurant's coveted Michelin star status. Barroyer worked with the renowned Paul Bocuse for nearly ten years and the experience has paid off. The Frenchman draws on his adopted country's remarkably varied regions to reinterpret traditional cuisine. Tavares' resident sommelier Arlindo Madeira has handpicked 300 national and international wines and champagnes to complement the refined menu. An opulent chandelier-lit interior of gilded wood, stucco and Venetian mirrors imbues the establishment with a rare, classical ambience that reflects the restaurant's noble history. However, such refinement comes at a price and dining here is, for most, a memorable one-off occasion.
