Description:
This enchanting anomaly is not you'd expect to find along an avenue lined with big brand name hotels, but it's a surprising little find nonetheless. The Veneza is a converted 19th-century townhouse, a property with enough kudos to be acknowledged by the Michelin guide. Passing the threshold guests are greeted by an ornate, carpeted staircase that nowadays is roped off so that the elevator is used more frequently. The modernist wall murals decorating the hall are by Pedro Luiz-Gomes and are somewhat incongruous against the building's neo-classical aspect. The 35 rooms are smallish but very well appointed. Cable TV is standard but Wi-Fi access is charged, though at a reasonable surcharge. Breakfast is optional and is taken in a wood-panelled dining hall. The bar is similarly furnished. The convenient location means this is a good choice for exploring the city centre and the hotel's receptionists are happy to impart sightseeing and restaurant suggestions.
