Take a break from museums and scheduled activities. Either you're the sports type or not, there comes a time when you start itching for fresh air and open spaces. So, it's time to delve into the outdoor activities of Lima. And for most of them there's no need to be fitness guru: these activities come just as active or relaxed as you'd like. So get out of the city, and get back to nature, or find some open spaces and nature in the city itself, which is always nice.
Let's start in the very heart of Lima, the Lima Downtown, which has some jewels (old colonial houses, churches, the Chinatown, etc.) that you can see while enjoying a walk, either with family or friends, and the most important, of course, is the Plaza Mayor, formerly known as Plaza de Armas, the most traditional place in Lima and, according to the history, the place where Lima was founded.
Not very far from here you will find the Magic Water Circuit, a very large park with some of the largest fountains in Peru, which offer a superb laser lights show at nights. You may also book a tour in the Mirabus, since some of its routes can take you to Lima Downtown and / or to this Magic Water Circuit. Some of Mirabus' tours even include a creole dinner, which may not be a very active thing, but is always a good way to end a busy day.
You have another three nice and family-friendly options inside the city: the Parque El Olivar, located in the heart of San Isidro, with lots of wild bird species; the Circuito de Playas Costa Verde (beaches!), and the Parque de las Leyendas, the largest state-run zoo. Outside the city there's the Fortaleza de Pachacamac, which combines history, trekking and (if you have enough time) some gastronomy in the towns nearby.
And, for those craving for adventure, we suggest Peru Cycling and Fly Adventure Paragliding School.
