Lausanne is a moderately populated city where you will find upscale stores, many tourist attractions, excellent restaurants, cafés, parks, and all the best of the big cities but with a sense of security and unbelievable beauty. Most tourists head to the Place St. Francois (the heart of the city with grandiose Belle Epoque buildings) where you will find the church of the same name (St-François Church), authentic Swiss café-restaurants like Le Café Romand next door to relatively new Starbucks. From the Plaza area areound the St. François Church you will wind up on rue de Bourg, the main high-end shopping street in Lausanne which includes Hermes and Louis Vuitton but also more affordable boutiques. A tiny street that descends steeply at the beginning of the rue de Bourg has more boutiques and cafés and continues past the large Globus department store (you much see the find food grocery department on the lower level) and then up slightly to Place de la Palud and the area of the Vielle Ville (Old Town).
