Off Beaten Path Attractions in Lausanne

Traveling in a South East direction you will arrive a St. Maurice, a former roman outpost and import Christian fort where you can still visit the Abbey as have popes, emperors and princes.

Along the lake shores after Montreux which is also South East of Lausanne is Le Bouveret, and the enormous water park open all year, Aquaparc. But before you arrive perhaps you would like to stop at the medieval Chillon Castle sitting picturesquely on the shores near Montreux.

In the same region you can take a cogwheel train straight up the Rochers de Naye mountain stopping in Caux for a view you will never forget. Once up on Rochers de Naye (over 6'000 ft.).

Perhaps the name of the excursion is odd, but the Corsier Communal Cemetery above Vevey is the final resting place such historical persons as Charlie Chaplin, film and TV film actor; James Neville Mason, author and playwright; Henry Graham Greene.

No far from Lausanne in the same direction is the village of Grandvaux sitting right in the middle of the steep Lavaux vineyards, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site overlooking the lake and Alps.

Traveling North of Lausanne, you can take the Lausanne-Echallens-Bercher (LEB) train out to the countryside for excellent easy hiking. If you continue North towards the Lake of Neuchatel you will be able to visit the impressive medieval Château de Grandson.
