The number one outdoor activity (regardless of the seaon or weather) in Lausanne and the Lake Geneva region is to promenade along the well-manicured paths of the placid lake. Everyone goes at their own speed either with their own feet, roller blades, bicycles (which can be rented at Guy Delessert), skateboards, scooters, etc. Ouchy with its fine hotels and fun restaurants can't be missed if you look for a large castle on the shoreline.
Nearby is the Espace Pierre de Coubertin with fountains, bridges, giant chess game equipment and some improvised skateboard competitions. This is also the area from which the lake cruises leave. You can rent boars or peddle boats from Guy Delessert.
Further down the lake path is the enormous Vidy Park and Beach area. Here you find the École de voile d'Ouchy (sailing school), the rowing club and the Stade Lausanne soccer stadium and some restaurants. In the same area is the Bellerive-Plage (large outdoor swimming pools and lake beach facilities). Another very local outdoor swimming pool is AquaSplash in Renens as well as the huge pools and grass lawns of the Pully Plage Beach with very scenic views.
Those interested in horses can go to the Parc Equestre outside of Lausanne a bit and near another forested recreation area called Le Chalet à Gobet.
