Start at the top of the Rue de Bourg where you find Hermés and Louis Vuitton (and McDonalds). Stroll down the boutique filled cobblestone streets and stop into Bucherer with its excellent selection of Swiss watches. Go down the little street next to it. Stop at André Macheret at the bottom for a taste of authentic Gruyère Cheese. Continue on to thte Place de la Palud to the City Hall and enjoy the plaza with its fountain and many shops and restaurants.
Go up a side street to the Manor department store with many floors of goods including nice some Swiss souvenirs on the first floor.
Return to the Place de la Palud and stop for a refreshment in a sidewalk café then head for the Medieval Wooden Stairs and climb up to the Notre Dame Cathedral de Lausanne for a visit. Go behind the Cathedral to the Cité to the very end of the streets and view the Castle St. Marie and lookout plaza.
Go back to the main street just below the Cathedral and walk to the Place de la Riponne and the Palais de Rumine to see the coin and medal collection of the Cabinet Cantonal des Médailles.
Head for St. François via the Grand Pont but first stop at Hug Musique situated right on edge of the bridge to see some fascinating instruments and all types of music. Continue through St. François and down past the train station to a quaint neighborhood and stop in at Galeries de Grancy and other shops and cafés on the little Boulevard.
