The number one thing to do near Hoover Dam is, of course, to see Hoover Dam! This engineering marvel is also a historic landmark. Since the completion of the Bypass Bridge, it's also more visitor friendly because you don't have to look out for traffic. Make sure to take one of the tours to get a glimpse into the dam. Once you've learned about the dam credited with taming the Colorado River, you can still find many things to do near Hoover Dam.
Hoover Dam created Lake Mead, which today is a National Recreation Area. It's the largest reservoir in the United States, and every year millions of people enjoy recreation on its shores and in its waters. A sight-seeing or dinner cruise is a fun way to get a different perspective of this huge man-made lake.
In Boulder City, you'll find several things to do. You can experience more of the history of Hoover Dam at the State Railroad Museum, where you can ride on restored train cars along the same stretch of track that was laid down in 1931. On the outskirts of the town, Hemenway Valley Park is home to a herd of Bighorn Sheep. It's a great place for a picnic and photo ops--just don't feed the sheep. And Bootleg Canyon is a place for daredevils: Epic-rated mountain biking trails and zipline tours.
Closer to Las Vegas, the Clark County Heritage Museum displays the history of Southern Nevada through historic homes and a train depot. Nearby, the Wetlands Park is an oasis in the desert for both animals and humans.
