Tahoe IS the outdoors. Most visitors come to the lake to experience all this great area has to offer: skiing, hiking, biking, swimming, boating, fishing and camping. You name it, Tahoe has it.
For some winter outdoor experiences head to Squaw Valley USA, Heavenly, Mt. Rose or
Kirkwood. These resorts have some of the best ski and sled terrain in the area. For some out-of-the-way areas to enjoy snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and nature walks, head up to the Tahoe Meadows or
Royal Gorge.
For some summer hiking, go up into the
Desolation Wilderness for some long or short hikes and be sure to visit the famous
Emerald Bay. Hike Mt. Tallac and Mt. Rose, two of the highest peaks in the area. If you want to really enjoy the lake, do some kayaking or biking around the perimeter or
hire a fishing guide for the day. For some great swimming, visit
Lester Beach or
D.L. Bliss State Park.
For some areas outside of the main Tahoe area, visit Donner Lake or Caples Lake for some swimming, fishing or boating. Or do a mountain bike or hike trip up to
Marlette Lake.
