Culture in Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe is not a hotbed of culture, but there are a few annual events that celebrate the local art and music scene. The most popular cultural event is the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival, which takes place over the summer months. Here you can watch the plays of the Bard on the beach of Sand Harbor with the lake as a backdrop.

Other cultural things to do include learning about the lake's history. Visit the Donner Memorial State Park, the Gatekeeper's Log Cabin Museum in Tahoe City, Bowers Mansion in Washoe Valley or the Tahoe Maritime Museum for more information on Tahoe's past.

For lovers of art, head to the North Tahoe Art Center and for music, check out the performances of TOCCATA, the Orchestral and Community Choral Artists of the Tahoe area. For something a little different, cheer for some beautiful ladies at Harvey's Carnival Cabaret show.
