This land of alpine lakes and rivers is the perfect spot for kayaking, canoeing and rafting. Not only is there Lake Tahoe, but you can do some paddling around Donner Lake, Cascade Lake, Fallen Leaf Lake, Washoe Lake and reservoirs like Stampede and Boca.
You can rent kayaks and canoes from several places around the lake including Zephyr Cove, Kayak Tahoe and Camp Richardson. One of the best places to launch is from Sand Harbor, but you can launch from King's Beach, Zephyr Cove and Camp Richardson's beach. A good water path to follow is the Lake Tahoe Water Trail.
If you are a river kayaker with some experience, head into Reno and try out the Truckee River Whitewater Rafting Park. Here there are several drops and rapids and easy access to the water. The park is right downtown next to several bars, restaurants and coffee shops.
