Mountain biking, street biking, a leisurely pedal along a paved bike trail. You can do them all at Lake Tahoe. Lake Tahoe is famous for its hard-core mountain bike trails, but you can also take the your children along on a ride to Fallen Leaf Lake or near Tahoe City and Camp Richardson.
The most popular mountain bike trail in the area is the Tahoe Flume Trail. This can be picked up on the North Shore near the old Ponderosa Ranch location. You can also mountain bike from Spooner Lake to Marlette Lake on an excellent dirt track. You can also go to the Northstar-at-Tahoe resort in the off season and ride the lifts up to some killer trails.
There are various street bike races around the lake during the summer and fall, including the Tour de Nez at Northstar and the Great Lake Tahoe Bike Race.
If you just want a leisurely ride through the woods and by the water, there are several paved paths you can take. You can ride from Tahoce City to Squaw Valley or from Tahoe City to Homewood and Sugar Pine Point State Park. In South Shore, you can ride on a paved path on the Pope-Baldwin Bike Path from Pope and Baldwin Beach down to Fallen Leaf Lake. Once you get to Fallen Leaf, take a ride around this beautiful alpine lake.
