Tahoe City is a charming community on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe. Not only is it a great place as a home base with numerous restaurants, hotels and shopping, but access to the lake is just a short walk away.
Tahoe City is also close to a lot of the local ski resorts including
Granlibakken,
Alpine Meadows,
Homewood,
Northstar-at-Tahoe and
Squaw Valley USA. Some of the best things to do in Tahoe City include walking along the Tahoe City Boardwalk, visiting
Commons Beach and doing some shopping at the
Cobblestone Center or the
Boatworks Mall.
Tahoe City is also a great place to grab some food or coffee.
Front Street Station's pizza, the
Fire Sign Café's breakfasts and the coffee and ice cream at
Gear & Grinds are popular.
For the nature and history lovers, Tahoe City is also home to the
Gatekeeper Museum and the North Lake Tahoe Historical Society. The
Truckee River also gets its long start down to Pyramid Lake from Tahoe City and you can view the river and the local spawning salmon at the
Fanny Bridge, named because so many people like to lean over the bridge to watch the fish. At the beginning of the river, visitors during the summer and fall might catch a glimpse of a local bear catching his own dinner.
