The South Shore area of Lake Tahoe is the busiest and most bustling of the small towns around the lake. This is the place where you can find restaurants that serve everything from breakfast bagels to late-night pub grub.
For breakfast places, try out
Rude Brothers Bagels for an excellent selection of the chewy bagels and fair trade coffee. Other great places for breakfast include both the
Red Hut Waffle Shops in South Lake Tahoe (old and new),
Heidi's Pancake House, the
Driftwood Cafe and
Sprouts Natural Foods. Many of these places can get packed on ski weekend mornings, so if you are just looking for a quick bite and a coffee, try the
Alpen Sierra Coffee Roasting restaurant, or Tahoe Java.
For a hardy lunch after a morning of skiing, riding or hiking I would suggest
Sprouts Natural Foods for some fresh, homemade bread and sandwiches,
Freshies Restaurant with a twist on Pacific Island food, the lunch specials at
Brothers Burritos, the
Taj Mahal Indian Cuisine or
Orchid's Authentic Thai Cuisine. For something simple like a hamburger and fries, go to
Izzy's Burger Spa and eat outside on their deck or head to the
Burger Lounge (look for the giant coffee cup).
Dinner can be casual or a time to dress up. Head to
Café Fiore or
Nephele's for some romance or to the
Fresh Ketch or the
Blue Water Bistro for some seafood on the lake. For some great sushi, try
Kalani's at Heavenly or
Off the Hook Sushi Bar. If you want to dress it down, get a pizza at the
Lake Tahoe Pizza Company or the popular
Brewery at Lake Tahoe.
