Description:

The National Museum is located just south of the Lake Gardens. Resembling a Malay palace, the National Museum's exterior displays a large central entrance that is flanked by two exhibition wings. The two striking large murals on the exterior of the exhibition wings depicts scenes of the country - the mural on the rights depicts the culture and customs of Malaysia while the one on the left chronicles the historical episodes of the nation. The museum's interior exhibits an impressive collection of artifacts on local history, culture and customs. Inside there's plenty of visual and hands-on exhibits. There are four main galleries- Culture, Face of Malaysia, Natural History & Weaponry, and Traditional Musical Instruments & Ceramics. Highlights here are the Malay dagger, ceramics from Ming Dynasty and musical instruments from different parts of Asia. Apart from the permanent exhibits, the museum also holds regular thematic exhibitions, that drawn large crowd of curious visitors. There's also a library, and an auditorium. Outdoor displays include vintage cars, old steam locomotives and a replica of an old Malay palace. It's a great place to start learning about the country and its history.
