Description:
The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC) was formerly a railway go-down that has now been cleverly transformed into a modern venue for musicals, plays, concerts and workshops. The center still retains some of the old structure from the1930s. It's what goes on inside that's most exciting - the space, which now includes two theaters, a cafe, and an academy is home to the local arts community and a foster home for foreign troupes. How the center came about is interesting – the Actors Studio, the city's first privately owned theater space was entirely destroyed by floods in 2003. The arts community needed a new home and so, KLPAC was born, opening its doors two years later in 2005. The same two people, Faridah Merican and Joe Hasham, who started the Actor's Studio continue to spearhead KLPAC. KLPAC is a non-profit company dedicated to the practice of traditional and contemporary performing arts, as well as education and community outreach. KLPAC is the city's platform to develop the performing arts in Malaysia, making it more accessible to everyone.
