Description:
Istana Budaya is KL's very own Royal Albert Hal. This is a state-of –the-art building which has housed noted plays, concerts and musicals. You'll find the hall's unique exterior very interesting and different from the rest of the modern buildings KL is known for. This unique design is inspired by the traditional Malay house and is constructed using marble from the island of Langkawi. Fine tropical wood has been transformed into beautiful carvings for the enormous door entrance. Inside, there is the main theatre hall or Panggung Sari, with its unique design of royal boxes inspired by the windows of the Malay traditional house. It can accommodate about 1400 people at one time. There's also a gallery dedicated to costumes from traditional Malay theaters. Among the most successful production ever staged here is the Puteri Gunung Ledang The Musical - a local production featuring some of the country's best talents. Istana Budaya is Asia's first theatre equipped with state-of-the-art stage equipment and is rated among the ten most sophisticated theaters in the world; and just as prestigious as London's Royal Albert Hall.
