The Harbour Plaza Hotel briefly hit international media spotlight during Hong Kong's handover ceremonies in 1997, when the then President of China Jiang Ze Min and other Chinese dignitaries stayed there. The Hotel has numerous excellent restaurants and the Harbour Grill is particularly worth trying. While the restaurant may be expensive, it is worth a visit now and again for the treat and the superb views to Hong Kong Island and beyond on rare smog free days are definitely a reason to come here.

Like many other newer buildings around Victoria Harbour, the Harbour Plaza complex was built in complete contravention of Metroplan town planning guidelines. First codified in teh 1990s, these specified that future high rise developments should not break the ridgeline of either Hong Kong Island or the Kowloon hills when seen from the harbour itself, but thats whats expected in a five star Hong Kong hotel like this one.
