Entering Koloa via Maluhia Road takes you through a grove of eucalyptus trees bending over the road and weaving together forming a natural tunnel. This is known as the Tunnel of Trees. The trees were brought in from Australia by the Knudsen family (said to be the largest landowner in the area) to stabilize the road because it was quite muddy at the time.
If you can find a safe pull-off spot along the road, this is a wonderful photo op- portunity if you can get a traffic-free shot. On very sunny days the tunnel is especially pretty with sparkling sunlight shining through the branches.
