Art in Jerusalem is displayed in art museums, galleries and as separate galleries in museums dealing with history too. The most sophisticated art collection is in the venerable Israel Museum--sections on Jewish ceremonial art, contemporary Israeli art as well as the gorgeous sculpture garden all make this a must for art lovers. Islamic art is the focus of the LA Meyer Museum of Islamic Art not far from the Jerusalem Theater. Here, the permanent collection as well as temporary exhibits provide an insight into art of the Moslem world. In the center of town don't miss the Museum of Italian Jewish Art that includes a stunning array of judaica from the ancient Italian Jewish community. A ten minute walk will bring you to the Ticho House, a branch of the Israel Museum that hosts temporary exhibits in an intimate space--a house that once belonged to Dr & Mrs Ticho, intellectuals of the early 20th century. The house contains a lovely cafe and an interesting art library. The lobby of the Jerusalem Theater has a nice exhibit space that visitors can browse for free whenever the theater is open. Space is often given to talented immigrant artists and sculptors, so it's the place to see what's up and coming in the Israeli arts world.
