Jerusalem's Old City is a treasure trove of historical, archaeological, religious and sensory experience. You could choose to just wander the alleyways of the different quarters and take in the sights and smells of the Middle East as you browse the spice shops and stalls packed with honey-coated, delicious oriental desserts; watch the old men lazing in the sun puffing on their hookahs and playing sheshbesh/backgammon and marvel at the graceful women swathed in colorful robes as they shop and shephered their children. On another day, take in the religious sites of three major world religions scattered through this densely populated ancient city. Don't forget to leave time to visit the many museums (some underground) that will give you a glimpse of how people lived in Jerusalem back in Temple times and into the 20th century.
