Business Travel to Istanbul: Around the Corner from the Congress Valley

The area, known as the Congress Valley, is a very central area within walking distance from Taksim Square and Nisantasi both. Therefore, if you are attending a conference or a seminar in this Valley, you are lucky.

Just stick you nose out from the conference room and you are almost in the Taksim Square. You could attend a concert or a theater at Ataturk Culture Center after the conference, or just stroll down the Istiklal Avenue and head towards Cicek Pasaji for shots of raki.

You do not even have to wait for after-the-conference to head to Istiklal. Lunch break? Walk fast to Haci Abdullah Restaurant on Istiklal Street towards its beginning for an authentic Turkish meal.

Alternatively you could also head for Abdi Ipekci Street and shrug off the day's street at Biber Bar or Beymen Brasserie.

If you are in for history and culture, stroll down hill from the Valley towards the coast and visit Dolmabahce Palace or the Istanbul Modern Museum.

Day 1 - Istanbul

Depending on how many days you have, you can always play with this itinerary. However, if you have only a couple of days, use this first day to lunch at Haci Abdullah and get a feel of the local traditional food. After your conference ends, take a cab to Istanbul Modern Museum. It is worth a visit not only because of the exhibitions, but also because of its unique position by the coast. After this, go back to Nisantasi district and up onto the Abdi Ipekci Street for pre-dinner cocktails: Bibar Bar or Zazie Restaurant/Bar would be good choices.
Recommended dinner place is Vogue with its overwhelming terrace view.

Day 2 - Istanbul

Next day, if you can start the day early, visit the Dolmabahce Palace before the conference. Spend your lunch time back on Nisantasi and do some people watching -get into the local mood and crowd- at Beymen Brasserie. After the conference, stroll down on the Istiklal Street and enjoy the local life. Stop at 360 Restaurant for a sneak of the view and maybe drinks. For dinner you may try out a tavern in Cicek Pasaji, go back to Harbiye for Hunkar or Long Table in Nisantasi.
