Description:
Hurrem Sultan, for whom television series are made in the local media, was the chief lover of Kanuni Sultan Suleiman. Sultans, back then, used to have an official wife (who often was their chief lover and the mother of their heir); but they also had many other lovers from the
harem. Harem was a quarter in the Palace, where only females -most of them concubines- lived. In the 16th century, Hurrem Sultan, who is often known by the name
Alexandra Anastasia Lisowska, known to Europeans informally as
Roxelana, was just a concubine when she first entered Sultan Suleiman's life. She was very attractive and very seductive. She soon became the Sultan's one and only lover and wife. The rest of the history has sad moments for Suleiman's other wife, Mahidevran, and his son from her.
This hamam is the hamam built by Mimar Sinan for Hurrem Sultan. It has a distinct architecture from many other hamams.
