Once upon a time, Akmerkez was the ultimate meeting, hang out, go-see-a-movie, go-check-out-someone and shopping place in Istanbul. As the number of malls, such as
Kanyon, Metrocity,
Istinye Park and City's, which are also intended to be hang out places, increased, Akmerkez lost some of its popularity. It is still nevertheless a busy place during weekdays and weekends given the numerous number of business offices inside its residences and "Etilites" -local residents living in Etiler.
