Baylan is a classic in Istanbul. Together with Markiz (which is unfortunately now closed), Inci, Kristal and few other reminiscent traits of the old Istanbul, Baylan is one of the representatives of what the former generation used to do. That is meet at Baylan for the legendary Kup Griye as they got on and off the ferry at Karaköy. Many of Baylan's branches is now closed. In fact the only remaining branch of the old tradition is in Kadıköy. The Bebek branch has recently opened under a new management team and is radically different from its old counterparts. It is nonetheless nostalgic to see it in Bebek.
