History is alive in Idaho
Address:
Old Fort Boise Road
Idaho, ID 83660
Description:
Old Fort Boise was built around 1834 near the confluence of the Boise and Snake Rivers, near the Oregon/Idaho border. Owned and operated by the Hudson's Bay Trading Company, the fort was a trading post and a welcome respite for Oregon Trail pioneers.
The fort remained in operation until 1854 when Indian conflicts resulted in its closure, along with Fort Hall, upstream along the Snake River.
A new fort was built1863 upriver about 40 miles, where present day Boise City is located. This fort was primarily a military fort.
Flooding along the river eventually destroyed the original Fort Boise, but a replica has been built in Parma, and visitors are welcome.
