NileGuide Expert tip:

Plan before you go. This is not a city park. It is the wilderness.

Description:

With over two million acres of forest, the Boise National Forest offers a little something for everyone. Camping, hiking, fishing, horseback riding, rock climbing, hunting, and snow sports as well. Elevation here is moderate for Idaho, ranging from about 2,500 feet to over 9,000 feet. Idaho's famous rivers careen through the forest: Boise and Payette Rivers as well as the Middle and South Forks of the Salmon River.

Campgrounds in the National Forests are rustic, with no flush toilets or bathrooms. Water is usually a hand pump in the middle of the campground. So if you like luxury camping, a state park might work better for you. If you love to be away from the madding crowd, roughing it in one with nature, the Boise National Forest will suit you just fine.

If you are just a day user, you'll find plenty of secluded picnic spots, incredible scenic drives, and delightful wildlife watching opportunities.
