Idaho has a surprising number of theatrical venues for the size of the population here. That speaks to the sophistication of the area. We're not just about potatoes. We have several theater organizations that provide top quality live performances to an educated audience.
The top theatre companies in Idaho include the Idaho Shakespeare Festival, a summer repertory theater where audience members can feast on a picnic while they watch the action. During the off-season of ISF, audiences can enjoy the small black box at Boise Contemporary Theater, which, as the name implies, performs new works by current playwrights. Boise Little Theater has been producing high quality community theater for so many years, I'm not sure anyone remembers how long ago it was. Knock 'Em Dead is Boise's dinner theater. While it is a community theater, the productions are done with a level of professionalism often missing in community theater. Stage Coach Theatre is another community theater with a long-standing place in the scene. The Morrison Center for the Performing Arts stages university theater productions as well as Broadway touring shows and many other types of performances. For those who like their theater sung, there's Opera Idaho.
