The Saigon River is something of a shape shifter. By day it is a sluggish, smelly and frankly rather neglected asset crawling almost apologetically through the city. By night, however, it is transformed into a significantly more appealing beast. It's still slightly niffy, but if you can ignore the occasional whiff of sewage an evening on the water is actually one of the quintessential Saigon experiences. There are several floating restaurants plowing the waterway, but many of them are overpriced and distinctly average. Bonsai, however, is a cut above. The company has two boats – one compact boat and one larger vessel – and both are luxuriously kitted out. A range of cruises is available but the most popular is undoubtedly the dinner option. Food is decent and service is generally impeccable while a live band makes the evening swing even harder.
