Future Shorts

Description:
The Future Shorts concept has come a long way since its debut in a former public toilet in the insalubrious surrounds of Hammersmith, London. The online film festival has spread its tentacles far and wide and fetched up in Saigon back in 2010 to add some much needed impetus to the city's creative scene. The concept is simple. Each month a set programme of short movies from all corners of the globe is shown at a designated venue (usually Yoko or Snap Café in District 2, but not always). In addition to the foreign films, the cream of Vietnam's young movie-making crop is offered their chance to shine with local films given airtime at most screenings. The quality is (naturally) variable, which is understandable when you consider the scattershot nature of the concept. Nevertheless, outlets for radical, individual thinking are in short supply in Saigon and the arrival of Future Shorts is indicative of brighter leftfield prospects ahead.
