NileGuide Expert tip:
Book ahead for an outside table
Description:
You'd expect a decent selection of French fare in a city once known as the 'Paris of the Orient' and Saigon doesn't disappoint. This venue is one of the most consistently popular Gallic-style hangouts in town and it's easy to see why. Ambiance is key here. The bistro-style food is generally very good, but the relaxed setting (book ahead to get a table in the outside courtyard area) elevates the experience considerably. Prices, too, are highly attractive. Mains such as pan-seared tuna and pork escalope with gratin dauphinoise come in at a very reasonable tally of around $5. The restaurant's worthy selection of French wines is also a winner. There are undoubtedly more imaginative and more decadent places in Saigon to indulge a craving for one of the world's master cuisines, but for a casual evening that demands little and delivers plenty, Le Jardin is one of the safest bets around.
