Friedrich Ebert, the first president of the Weimar Republic in 1919, was born in 1871 in a small apartment in the center of Heidelberg's Old City, which now acts as the centerpiece for this memorial. This beloved leader's life, contributions and achievements are highlighted within the bigger context of German history in a permanent exhibit entitled "Friedrich Ebert – His Life, His Work, His Times." This fascinating museum features many changing exhibitions in addition to an archive and library boasting over 7000 volumes! A must-see for any history buff visiting Heidelberg, visitors can enjoy the memorial and museum Tuesdays thru Sundays from 10am to 6pm and Thursdays from 10am-8pm for free.
