Description:

This scenic path runs along the western edge of Heidelberg's historic Heiligenberg, a beautiful mountain rising next to the Neckar river and overlooking the city's Old Town (Altstadt). You can reach Philosophers' Way by walking across the Theodor Heuss Bridge from Bismarckplatz and following the signs leading you through an elegant neighborhood at the foot of the hill. We suggest, however, crossing the Neckar using the Old Bridge (Alte Brücke) and ascending the mountain using the winding, snake-like path, where you'll feel like you're in a maze as you make the 10-15 minute walk uphill. Once actually on Philosophers' Way, you'll be able to admire the city, river and castle from 439.9 meter high. Philosophers' Way, as well as being popular amongst local jogging and biking enthusiasts, is home to many private gardens. Exposure to the perfect amount of moisture and sun-light, Philosophers' Way houses many different kinds of Mediterranean Plants and sun-loving animals rarely found in this type of climate.
