The Documentation and Cultural Centre of German Sinti and Roma is the only center of its kind in the world to offer perspectives on the horrors of the Nazi Era through the eyes and stories of the Roma and Sinti, a minority group with a 600-year history in Germany. The Center opened its doors in 1997 and has since been educating the public about the Roma and Sinti. Although the exhibition focuses on this specific group, it also provides a comprehensive history of the Nazi Era as a whole and is, therefore, an informative, well-organized one-stop place for those interested in this part of German history. The 3-floor permanent exhibition focuses first on the systematic process of exclusion of the Roma and Sinti starting in 1933, then moves to a detailed history of the invasion of the Soviet Union and the Final Solution, and ends on the 3rd floor with a commemorative walkway, reminiscent of the Vietnam Veterans' Memorial in Washington, D.C., though on a much smaller scale. Although all of the text in the exhibit is in German, audio guides are available in several languages, as are guided tours if booked in advance.
