Description:
The Basilica of Our Lady of Zapopan is the permanent home of the Virgin of Zapopan. The statue of the Virgin was made in the 16th century. Built in 1690, the Basilica and the abbey of our Lady of Expectation of Zapopan are home to Franciscan friars and Franciscan sisters. Other Catholic orders use the facility as well. It is an important pilgrimage site (the third most important in Mexico). The basilica, with its large vestibule, vaulted ceiling and ionic columns is considered architecturally important and certainly worth a visit.
