Description:

The baptistery, cathedral, and episcopal complex that makes up the Old Bishop's Palace Museum represents the religious core of Grenoble and dates from 3 B.C.

The most impressive elements include the underground baptismal area that evolved over the centuries as the Christian baptismal rite changed. This is where visitors can also see the city's most intact remnants of the old ramparts and can literally cross the threshold into the old city.

Above ground, the museum presents the human history of the Isère department, even from times before it was called by that name. Its permanent collection stretches from pre-historic times to the 20th century.

The museum also presents temporary exhibits on various aspects of local history.

Entrance to both the permanent and temporary exhibits is free.
