A few scenes from the film Les Rivières Pourpres, starring Jean Reno, were filmed in the former library room.

Description:

The Ancien Musée-Bibliothèque de Grenoble (Old Library-Museum) dates from 1872 and, as its name says, used to house the city library and the Grenoble art museum.

Four groups of rooms make up the museum, and above each door, the rooms' original function is carved into marble with gold lettering. The vestibule is one of the most interesting areas, with its geometric floor tiles and meticulously detailed paintings. Notice the arms of Grenoble and the city's former names, Cularo and Gratianopolis, on the ceiling.

Today the left wing houses a temporary-exhibit museum called La Plateforme. It features exhibits on the city's urban projects.
