NileGuide Expert tip:
The award-winning restaurant at Kenwood Inn and Spa is open only to guests. So plan on eating dinner at the Inn; the olive oil tasting menu and the wine pairing appetizer menu are also not to be missed.
Description:
Step through the arched gateway into the sun-dappled courtyards and grottos of the Kenwood Inn and Spa, and you could swear you just disembarked at a Tuscan villa. With an award-winning restaurant famed for the traditional-with-a-twist cuisine of chef Renzo Veronese, Kenwood Inn offers everything you need within its secluded elegance. In addition to an oversized pool there are several small heated seawater pools for soaking, one of which features a shoulder-soothing waterfall. Both indoor and outdoor pools are open to guests 24 hours, along with an herb-scented steam room, so you have the sense of having the run of your own private villa.
Kenwood's spa features a wide variety of treatments, from massages to facials, body wraps, and other beauty- and health-enhancing services. Talented local massage therapists can provide a range of styles, including Swedish, therapeutic, and deep tissue massages if you want your vacation to serve double duty as a wellness retreat.
The rooms at Kenwood are over-the-top romantic, swathed in luxurious folds of fabric rich wall-coverings, and plush carpets. Oversized fireplaces enhance the coziness factor when fall and winter fog chills the valley, while picture windows overlook the courtyard and vineyards below for an all-season view. Several lounge rooms are open day and night, and in addition to the restaurant a warm and firelit bar hosts guests for wine, cheese and olive oil tastings and before-dinner drinks.
The hearty farm-style breakfast, served in the restaurant at your convenience, includes fresh fruit, scones and other baked goods straight from the oven, and a main course featuring farm-fresh eggs and produce prepared with inventive flair. One nice touch i appreciated was frequent refills of Italian coffee, made as strong as you'd find it in your favorite sidewalk cafe in Rome.
