Description:

It is easy to be bewitched by City Halls and the Old Fruitmarket . Both sit in the city's cultural Merchant City and form part of Glasgow's Centre for Music.  Dating  as far back as 1841, City Hall is  Glasgow's oldest, but most well loved, purpose built performance and meeting venue. The Grand Hall is a traditional style auditorium with raked seating and a balcony – it holds up to 1,036 people. The  resident orchestra is the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.  Famous names who have appeared, include Charles Dickens, Benjamin Disraeli, Billy Connelly and Dr David Livingstone.  The sound in  City Hall  is breathtaking and is in fact renowned internationally for having some of the finest acoustics. The internationally acclaimed  pianist, Alfred Brendel actually requested he perform here in 2008, as part of the International Classical Season, as he had heard about the venue's fabulous acoustics.

The Old Fruitmarket has kept all of its period charm, including its lofty vaulted roof, cast iron columns and balcony. This was once where you'd be more likely to find stalls of fruit and vegetables on offer than performances!  It is bursting with character. You can expect, theatre events, jazz concerts, comedy, rock, pop and world music gigs as well as club nights, ceilidh's, fashion shows and banquets!  They even hosted the BAFTA Scotland awards in 2006.
Popular haunts for refreshments and eats  include Bazaar Bar and Candleriggs Bar.
