Description:

A major feature of Franconia Notch State Park, the Franconia Notch Recreational Trail is a paved, 9-mile multi-use trail that has fast become a top choice among cyclists, casual hikers and walkers, and in-line skaters visiting the White Mountains of New Hampshire. The trail is generally flat and easily accessible for bikers of all levels. There is no access fee for use of the trail. The trail was designed so that it passed by several notable landmarks including the Flume Gorge, an 800 foot long and 80 foot deep gorge (fees charged for access to the gorge); Profile Lake; the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway; and Echo Lake (a prime spot for swimming that also features kayak and canoe rentals); and nearby Mt. Lafayette and Mt. Lincoln with their commanding 5,000 foot plus summits. The trail also winds its way past the former Old Man in the Mountain rock formation, the symbol of New Hampshire which, unfortunately, collapsed several years ago. Bike rentals are available at the White Mountain Bike Shop in nearby Franconia. For families or groups seeking a comfortable and scenic bike tour for the day, the Franconia Notch Recreational Trail may fit the bill.
