Florianopolis Restaurants

Seafood is the thing to eat in Florianopolis, the island being situated amid rich fishing waters bearing Atlantic oysters, squid, crab, and a veritable cornucopia of fishes. Unlike in many other Latin American destinations, visitors to Floripa need not worry about freshness and quality of shellfish -- it's all so fresh, the chances of ordering something bad are slim indeed.

Which brings us to Porto do Contrato. Right on the water and overlooking an oyster farm, this might be the best place on the island to gorge on bivalves, at a very reasonable price. Acor, on the southern coast also concentrates on seafood, but with an Angolan twist that's sure to introduce you to more than a couple new flavors.

Italian food is as popular in Brazil as it is back in the States, and indeed, the Italian population here in the south of the country rivals any found in America. As such, Italian food here is authentic and subject to close scrutiny; expect to find some recipes you wouldn't at any American-Italian restaurant. Mar Massas and Bianco are both excellent choices for trying Brazilian-Italian cuisine, also with a healthy dose of seafood.

Friendly and locally owned, both Capella and Basilico serve up pizza Brazilian-style, so don't think you're missing out on culture just because you think you've had pizza before.
