Flagstaff in love
Description:
This trip guide is designed for nature-loving couples who can't get enough of each other. Each day features varied eating options throughout the day, from fine dinning to gourmet wood-fired pizzas, fine wines to locally brewed ales. A trip to Flagstaff would not be complete without a few enjoyable hikes under the canopy of pine, aspen, and evergreen - so two hikes are featured here (but don't feel limited to these two as Flagstaff has much more to offer to the adventurous couple).

Day 1 - Flagstaff
Our romantic Flagstaff get-away starts early in the morning. Macy's is a great place for coffee and pastries. They make a mean breakfast burrito and quiche as well. After your caffeinated, take a romantic stroll through Flagstaff's beautiful Arboretum, which is as perfect as a fairy tale in the summer months.
While you're downtown, you'll want to soak in some of the art that Flagstaff has to offer. There are many galleries, but there is nothing in town quite like the Artists Gallery.
A romantic dinner at Pasto (score a table outside and watch the sun go down over the square) is followed up by some star-gazing at the observatory, where you can walk to the Weatherford, enjoy a nightcap at the Zane Grey Ball Room on the third floor, before resting your head down the hall.

Day 2 - Flagstaff
From the Weatherford, La Bellavia is a short walk across the tracks. Create your own Omelette or delight your taste buds with a short stack of pancakes. If you're a coffee drinker, do yourself a favor and drop in Macy's again, which is just next door.
Walnut Canyon is just a few miles west on I-40. Take the newly renovated Island Trail hand-in-hand with your partner and trace your fingers across the ancient cliff dwellings.
From Flagstaff take Hwy 89 north 40 miles to the beautiful, well-in tact ruins at Wupatki National Monument. To many, this is a very spiritual place. It is even more special to share with someone you love. Sunset at the Citadel ruins is heart-stopping.
Josephines is fine dinning in Flagstaff at it's best. Offering a wide selection of wines, this French-style bistro serves up food that is especially enjoyable when you're sharing it with the one you love. Just down the street from Josephines is Theatrikos Theatre Company. Check the schedule and be sure to drop in if their having a performance. (if they are not, try Ardrey Auditorium on campus or the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra - between these three there is bound to be a performance with both artistic and romantic flare)

Day 3 - Flagstaff
Hands down, MartAnne's Burrito Palace, makes the most delicious breakfast burritos you'll ever taste, but be sure to get there early as the restaurant is pretty small and fills up quickly, especially on the weekend.
Today, your love will transcend the limits of the city where it can flourish freely among natural beauty. The Brookbank Trail offers fantastic high-altitude views among pine, aspen, and evergreen trees. You'll want to drop in the visitor's center and get a topo-map and figure out the best route to the trail. You can take Schultz Pass and access the trail via the Rocky Ridge trail, Kachina Trail, or Sunset trail. Once you get there, however, take your time. This is a beautiful place (bring a lot of water, especially in the summer).
Beaver Street Brewery is not only a great spot to wet your whistle with locally brewed ales, but the pub fare is ideal after a long day of hiking. This author recommends the Enchanted Forest wood-fired pizza. From there, more art is to be had downtown. Take this time to explore the downtown area and it's many artistic and historical attractions.
The Cottage Place Restaurant is a very romantic establishment walking distance from downtown. The restaurant has a comfortable "cottage" atmosphere that is ideal for low voices where sweet nothings can be whispered between mouthwatering bites of gourmet fare.
Tonight, you'll walk a few blocks west of downtown and settle at a quaint B & B for the next two nights.
Once you're settled at your new lodge, walk back downtown and enjoy a few glasses of wine at the Wine Loft.

Day 4 - Flagstaff
South of the tracks on San Francisco St. is an often over-looked gem of a breakfast establishment. Morning Glory serves up unique breakfasts, utilizing ingredients acquired locally.
After your bellies are full, you'll spend a few hours on the appropriately titled "Fat Man's Loop," a very easy, yet extremely enjoyable trail along Mt. Elden (bring that map again, just in case).
Sushi awaits you downtown at Karma, a new but well-enjoyed establishment. Who knew sushi could taste so fresh in a land-locked state, 7 thousand feet above sea-level!
