Located in an historic blue-stone building from 1865, Charcoal Lane blends modern Australian cuisine with a heavy emphasis on Aboriginal flavors. Providing a unique dining experience, by sourcing rare native ingredients and incorporating it into meals such wallaby tartare, native peppered kangaroo fillet and yam fritters. The atmosphere is relaxed and the interior design, including "eel trap" lampshades symbolizes the coming together of cultures. The restaurant also acts as a training center for aboriginal and disadvantaged young people, so that they may enter employment in the hospitality industry. The name Charcoal Lane, is taken from the name of the debut album from Aboriginal folk songwriter Archie Roach.
